Arrested for Selling Lemonade

TOPIC OF DISSCUSSION:

Segregation - the enforced separation of different racial groups in a country, community, or establishment.

REVIEW OF INCIDENT:

Some people were selling lemonade and they all were arrested for vending without a permit.

SUMMARY:

I don't have a problem with the police arresting the lemonade people because they were doing this on public property. The cops asked them to leave but they refused. If you let one person set up a table in front of the white house, a park, sidewalk, etc... Then before you know it the place will full of people with tables selling stuff. Open up a store or sell it in front of your house. Not on public property.

The thing I want to focus on comes towards the end of the video. Someone is interviewing one of the officers who arrested the lemonade people. The officer is black and he was asked if we still had laws like segregation, would you enforce them. The black officer responded that yes he would enforce segregation laws if we had them today. The officer said I don't make the laws, I just enforce them. Your problem is not with the police, it is with the law makers.

So the officer just admitted that if segregation laws existed today he would enforce them. Which means he would lock up black people if he caught them in a white person only area. To him he would just be doing his job. He is enforcing the law. He is following orders. He is not evil. The evil people would be the law makers who make these evil laws that he enforces. He is only executing the evil peoples orders because it is his job. This is the danger we face today. There are a lot of laws that these law makers create which violate our rights and a lot of police who follow orders.

When I was small and I did something dumb. My mom would ask me why I did it. I would usually tell her that everyone else was doing it. She would then say, if you saw everyone jump off a bridge, would you jump off it? I would say no. She told me it is important to learn to think for yourself. You have to know when something is wrong or right and if it is wrong, then don't do it. That everyone is responsible for there own actions.

All people are created equal and have certain individual rights which are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Individual rights cannot be given away or taken away. We can do as we please within our individual rights, as long as we do not violate others individual rights. No one has the right to harm you, steal from you, threaten you, or violate your individual rights. All interactions, transactions, and associations must be voluntary.

To help secure our individual rights, governments may be created, deriving their powers from the consent of the governed. Whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter it, abolish it, or withdraw there consent to be governed.

If government is harming you, stealing from you, threatening you, or violating your rights, it is a criminal organization. If a person is harming you, stealing from you, threatening you, or violating your rights, he is a criminal. Even if he is just following orders.

QUESTIONS:

Should government create laws that violate our rights?
