Life is better with freedom
The Truth About The Oregon Rancher Standoff - Stefan Molyneux
REVIEW OF THE VIDEO:
Some people took over a federal building in Oregon to help protest and draw attention to what has happened to two ranchers from Oregon.
Oregon Rancher Dwight Hammond age 73 and his son Steven Hammond age 46 are owners of a big ranch near government land. Their ranch is over 10,000 acres. There was a fire that was coming towards their home. So they did a controlled burn on their land so when the fire reached their land it could not burn anything and spread to their house. It worked the controlled burn saved their house from burning down.
But their controlled burn ended up burning one acre of government land that was next to their ranch. They ended up burning some bushes on government land that were worth around $100 dollars according to the government. So the government had them arrested and charged them with terrorism for destroying government property. Which you can be sent to prison for 5 to 20 years.
The judge in the case realized the ranchers are not terrorists and that they should have never been charged with terrorism. He offers the ranchers a plea deal to go to jail for 3 months and that will end the matter. The government agrees and the ranchers agree. The ranchers go to jail for 3 months. After the ranchers get out of prison and the government appeals the case to another judge who puts the ranchers back in prison for 5 years.
MY ANALYSIS:
The right solution to this case should have been that the ranchers pay the government a fine of $100 dollars because according to the government the bushes they burned down by mistake were only worth about 100 dollars.
The ranchers are not terrorists. They were only trying to stop the oncoming wild fire that was heading towards their home. But if the government gets them convicted as terrorists, they can put them in prison for 5 to 20 years and steal their 10,000 acre ranch which happens to be next to land that the government already owns.
THE PRICE OF FREEDOM:
Their will always be criminals who try to violate our freedom. To remain free we have to be willing and able to defend our freedom.
